What is fractured femur?

The femur is the longest bone in the human body. When your femur is broken in any type of accident in Pensacola, you are said to have suffered a fractured femur . Located in the thigh, the femur is the strongest bone in the body. Because it is so strong, the bone is not typically broken outside of instances of severe trauma.

The most common cause for a fractured femur is a vehicle accident or a fall that results in a strong force as the body makes contact with the ground or other surface. If the femur is fractured due to a minor to moderate trauma, it is normally due to an underlying condition. One such condition is osteoporosis.

A fracture to the femur is painful. Symptoms may include pain, swelling, immobility, bleeding and deformity. The leg can be rendered unusable due to pain and a loss of stability. It is unusual for a fractured femur to be the only outcome of a vehicle accident. Because the bone is so difficult to break, it takes a very serious accident and one that typically causes injury to other parts of the body.

If a femur is fractured, it may require surgery to repair. The specific course of treatment is dependant upon the type, location and severity of the break. Doctors and other medical staff will consider all forms of treatment before it is determined that surgery is the only option.

When you or a loved one have experienced a fractured femur as the result of an accident, you may be entitled to compensation. An experienced attorney can assist you in making this determination.
